Vastu Aayam

Vastu Aayam reads the proportion between length and breadth — the shape of the rectangle itself — and reports how the classical Vastu tradition classifies that ratio, with the basis for the reading shown beside it.

Proportion before placement

Before a single room is placed, a plot already has a character: the relation of its longer side to its shorter one. The classical Vastu tradition treats ordered, measured proportion as a quality in itself — a site that is almost square, one that stretches long, and one in between are read differently. Vastu Aayam makes that reading explicit instead of leaving it to the eye.

What the calculator reports

You enter the length and the breadth in any common unit. The tool computes the exact ratio, states the proportion class the practice records assign to it, and quotes the classical basis for that class beside the result. Nothing is rounded away silently: the ratio you see is the ratio your dimensions actually make, and where the records leave a boundary case open, the result says so rather than forcing a verdict.

How practitioners use this

Aayam is a first-minutes check on any new brief. Practitioners run it on the plot as surveyed, then again on the proposed built footprint, because the two often differ. When a proportion reads poorly, the usual craft is to adjust the buildable envelope — a verandah, a setback, a compound wall — and re-run the check before detailed planning begins. The one-line proportion verdict then opens the client report, in the practitioner's own name.

Frequently asked questions

Is a perfect square always the goal?

No. The tradition reads several proportion classes, each with its own character; the tool reports the class, not a single idealised target.

Do I measure the plot or the building?

Both are worth reading. Run the check on each rectangle you care about — plot, footprint, even a single important room.

What about irregular plots?

Aayam reads a rectangle. For cut or slanted plots, pair it with the free plot-shape and plot-tilt tools, then read the aayam of the regular core.

This explanation is public in English and Hindi. The calculator and the quoted classical basis run with the Practitioner licence; the page loses nothing by being read first.

The classical basis appears with each calculation result, quoted from the practice's source records.
